Google Translate

Published by Champaign County Clerk at 12:34 pm under General

The free tools available on the web are truly amazing.  One that we’ve added recently to our site is Google Translate.  There was a time where I was conversationally fluent in Spanish, but those days are past.  So it’s a little tough for me to really evaluate the quality of the translation offered here.  Regardless, this is certainly an improvement over nothing and gives us one other way to reach out to the many different ethnic groups that avail themselves of the services of our office.

I’d love to hear comments from anyone who is fluent in any of these languages.

Hello County Clerk, Mr. Mark Sheldon,

Google’s is the best machine translation offering but it is no where near perfect, I should know, I use it as an integral part of my business. I recommend that it not be the only option you provide site visitors. I have developed a free and well used gadget similar to the one your site embedded which offers Google Translations served up by the same Google Servers but mine additionally offers the human translation option. The humans are Rosetta Interpreters and can be available for conference calls with your staff and speakers or of any of the 20 main languages spoken in the US or they also can do text translations when the visitor needs human translation. This cost is paid for by the visitor.

An additional tip: It appears you only have your current “Google Gadget” on your home page instead of on all the pages people may wish to have translations done.

Please don’t hesitate to use my email if I can advise you further.

    Regards,

    Jeremy
