I just voted today absentee.  While the law allows election officials to vote absentee this is the first time I’ve done it since I’ve been County Clerk.  I had a tough time getting away at the February primary and just didn’t want to take the chance this time.

Anyway, I was fully informed on the ballot and voted in 1 minute, 31 seconds.

Please please please, get your specimen and become informed and show up prepared!

How does the process for verifying ballot eligibility for early and absentee voters differ now than it did in the old days when punch card ballots were used and sent to the polling place for verification? How does one challenge an early or absentee voter now?

early and absentee voters can be challenged just like at the polling place. it would require a pollwatcher here. We have had no pollwatchers, although it is definitely allowed under the law

Thanks. With the number of people that early voted it is surprising no pollwatchers were present.

But how is the verification done? When I was an election judge during the punchcard years the application to vote and the ballot card were delivered to the polling place in a sealed envelope and all the judges went through them and deposited the valid absentees in the ballot box. When I early voted this year I noticed my ballot went directly into a “ballot box” counter/reader of some sort and was separated from my application. How does my vote get added (or not added) to the precinct totals?

it will happen on election night. there will be a combined reported result. it goes straight into the box, which is why it is critical to have verifcation of your identity at the time you vote.
