As I mentioned a couple months ago, we have scheduled a seminar with the Illinois Attorney General’s office regarding the Freedom of Information Act and the Open Meetings Act. While Ms. Mutchler will be making a standard presenation she is also interested in addressing any specific questions people at the seminar might have.

The Illinois Attorney General has a Public Access Counselor who regularly conducts training around the state on the Open Meetings Act and the Freedom of Information Act. When I learned this, I thought it would be a great idea to bring her in to Champaign County for the benefit of our elected officials here.

We have scheduled a session in Champaign County on May 22, 2007 at the Urbana Civic Center at 6:00 p.m. Our office will be contacting all elected officials in the County as well as others we think might be interested. Members of the public are free to attend as well, but we’d like some advance notice to make sure that the room can accomodate everyone.

We scheduled the meeting after the April election to allow newly elected officials to begin their career with an overview of these important laws.
